Situation
Metalcraft of Mayville is a full service metalworking facility and a single source for custom metal fabrication needs.

Certain key customers expressed the need for Metalcraft to secure fabrication capabilities in the Southeast U.S. While expanding through a greenfield operation was a possibility, it was not as desirable as locating a company with operations and skilled employees in place.

Scope of Mertz's role
Metalcraft wanted to move quickly, so Mertz aggressively researched nearly 300 possible prospects and identified 22 that could be a fit. Within three weeks of being retained, Mertz began contacting and was able to initiate substantive discussions with 15 prospects.

Metalcraft and Mertz visited nine qualified prospects. By applying and evaluating objective criteria, three to four top prospects were invited to visit Metalcraft.

Ultimately, Metalcraft acquired Neal within six months of beginning the search process with Mertz.

Mertz's value add
By opening doors and developing discussions with multiple prospects, Mertz helped Metalcraft accomplish its goal of expansion to the Southeast with an acquisition that is a good fit with its own operations and culture.
